Re: Proposed Ballivor Wind Farm

Dear Public Participation Network Member,

In line with ongoing company strategy, Bord na Móna is proposing to develop a wind farm within the Ballivor Bog Group located in Counties Meath & Westmeath. This Bog Group consists of the following bogs: Ballivor, Bracklin, Carranstown, Lisclogher and Lisclogher West. The proposed development will be known as Ballivor Wind Farm.

Bord na Móna’s interest in bringing forward the proposed Ballivor Wind Farm is a result of the company’s transition to becoming a major supplier of renewable energy. As part of its Brown to Green Strategy, the company is implementing an extensive peatland rehabilitation programme and expanding its new low carbon operations. A key objective of this strategy involves using the land to continue to underpin Ireland’s energy independence by developing green, sustainable energy sources to assist with Ireland’s commitment to generate 70% renewable electricity by 2030.

In order for members of the local community to be more informed about the proposed development, Bord na Móna has arranged three Community Information Sessions as follows:

  • Tuesday 10th March: 5-9 pm – Ballivor Community Centre, Mullingar Rd, Ballivor
  • Wednesday 11th March: 5-9 pm – Raharney GAA Clubhouse, Raharney
  • Thursday 12th March: 5-9 pm – St. Patricks Hall, Main Street, Delvin

In the meantime, please find enclosed an A2 size map outlining the study area for the proposed development. As the proposed development is at an early stage the number and location of turbines has not yet been determined. However, it is estimated that the proposed wind farm could be similar in scale to Bord na Móna’s proposed Derrinlough Wind Farm in west Offaly.
