The Hugh Lane Gallery and Create are delighted to announce this significant opportunity for a collaborative/ socially engaged artist(s) to embark on a major commission.
Following on from their successful partnership on the CAPP commission (2017) awarded to Seamus Nolan’s Traveller Collection which investigated the idea of archive, deconstructed ideas on ‘heritage’ and engaged with communities of place and of interest involving Traveller activists and archivists, The Hugh Lane Gallery and Create are delighted to once again partner to offer a significant opportunity for collaborative/ socially engaged artist(s).
In keeping with both Hugh Lane Gallery and Create’s commitment to principles of equality, diversity and inclusion, we seek expressions of interest from artists who are from minority ethnic backgrounds and/ or have lived experience of displacement and/ or are shaped by histories of intergenerational migration. Candidates may self-identify as Traveller, Roma, refugee, migrant or otherwise through lived experience and/ or second generational memories. The commission is open to artists based in the Republic of Ireland.
The commission is aimed at professional artist(s) who are interested in developing or consolidating their collaborative/ socially engaged arts practice. Artist(s) should have a track record and experience of working in the field of collaborative/ socially engaged arts practice. The artist(s) should demonstrate the ability to connect to and read the complexities of the local area of Dublin city geographically within the Dublin City Council administrative area. We particularly welcome proposals which consider diverse ways to engage with both community and audience.

The Artist in the Community (AIC) Scheme, managed by Create for the Arts Council, supports artists and communities to work together on innovative collaborative arts projects.
Due to the success of the scheme, Create seeks additional support to enable us to respond to growing interest and to advance current development plans. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in and experience of collaborative and socially engaged arts to assist on key projects. Working with the Arts & Engagement Manager, we are offering a temporary assignment that will support our work, and encourage and sustain a growing and diverse network of practitioners and communities.

Create is pleased to partner with the Irish Network Against Racism (INAR) to offer the 2022 AIC Scheme bursary award on Collaborative Arts and Cultural Diversity. This bursary is designed to support individual professional artists whose practice centres on collaboration with individuals or groups (non-arts professionals).

Create and partner the Irish Network Against Racism (INAR) are pleased to announce an online information session for the AIC Scheme Bursary on Collaborative Arts and Cultural Diversity.
On Wednesday 27th July, Create will host an information event for artists in relation to this bursary. In this information session Áine Crowley, Programme Manager, Arts and Engagement, will outline the Bursary, answering any questions you might have about making an application. She will be joined by Patricia Munatsi, Policy Lead, Irish Network Against Racism.

New Case Study: The Hold: Mary Sullivan and Bere Island Women Create

The Hold (2020 – 2022) is a project that forefronts the act of community, creativity, and collaboration in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, where an unravelling of social and communal cohesion is prevalent in a global context. The Hold illustrates a symbolic coming together of twenty-four full-time female residents of Bere Island through quilting, sound recording, and diary writing.
The Hold stitches together the lives of women at a time when the threads of community life are frayed and island women look for opportunities to remain connected with one another.

The purpose of the Rural Engagement Arts Programme (REAP) is to provide an integrated, cohesive approach to the needs of local rural communities as they emerge from the global Covid pandemic, recognising the specific issues they face as a result. The overarching theme is combatting isolation and loneliness, and promoting social inclusion.
The Arts Council believes that arts, and coming together as communities, can all make a vital contribution to building health, confidence and healthy integrated communities. Groups can apply for one-off projects or for a programme of events. Projects do not have to be new: existing programmes which are successful and meet the strategic themes of REAP are eligible.

The Hodder Fellowship will be given to artists and writers of exceptional promise to pursue independent projects at Princeton University during the academic year. Potential Hodder Fellows are composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, writers, translators, or other kinds of artists or humanists who have “much more than ordinary intellectual and literary gifts”; they are selected more “for promise than for performance.”
Hodder Fellows spend an academic year at Princeton, but no formal teaching is involved. An 88,000 USD stipend is provided for this ten-month appointment as a Visiting Fellow. Fellowships are not intended to fund work leading to an advanced degree. One need not be a US citizen to apply.

What does collectivity look like in the arts in Ireland today? What could it look like in the future?
This event will be joined by Kerry Guinan, conceptual artist and chair of Praxis, the Artists Union of Ireland; Kate O’Shea, artist and organiser working across print-making, performance installation and publishing; Laetitia Deering and Robbie Kitt from Tacky Cardia, a new independent space for late night music and dancing events; and Sebastian Adams, composer and artistic director of Kirkos Ensemble, who run Unit 44 where the discussion will be hosted. Each will each speak on the question. There will then be space for questions and further contributions, and a group discussion on the questions and ideas raised.

Void Gallery is delighted to announce details of forthcoming finissage event for its ambitious outdoor public art sculpture project by artist David Beattie as part of their Void Offsites programme.
Besides celebrating the culmination of David Beattie’s sculptural commission, there will be publication launch of Listening to Places: exercises toward environmental composition by Robin Parmer.
In addition, a temporary sonic event will be held each day at high and low tides to mark the ebb and flow of the River Foyle. The nearby bell will be rung daily from the 20-27 of July as part of Slowtime, a multi-part project by artist David Beattie.
