The lovely month of May celebrates Age and Opportunity and focuses on creativity in older age through the Arts. Meath County Council Library Service and Meath Arts Office have a lovely selection of events and activities as part of our celebration of Bealtaine.

Our headline event will see Irish singer and songwriter, Michael Brunnock, perform two intimate concerts in Dunshaughlin and Ashbourne Libraries. Brunnock has toured extensively in Ireland, Europe and the States, opening for the Frames and The Swell Season on recent sold-out American tours. These concerts are supported by Meath Arts Office and bookings will be taken directly by the libraries.

The Nation Holds Its Breath, the aptly titled and much anticipated memoir by one of Ireland’s best-loved radio and TV personalities, George Hamilton, will be discussed through a Zoom interview and therefore from the comfort of your own home.

Also supported by Meath Arts Office, we also have two wonderful workshops on willow basket making with Helena Golden and these will take place in Navan and Oldcastle Libraries at the end of the month. Grace Haynes, artist, will be hosting a four-part online workshop based on Irish Nature Drawing all that is required is a pencil, pen and paper.

And after two years of an absence, we are delighted to invite our library book clubs back in person for our annual Big Book Quiz which takes place on Wednesday, May 18th in Buvinda House, Navan.

Many of our libraries are welcoming back our regular groups and clubs including book clubs, craft groups, choir, film clubs, angel meditation, music appreciation club, Spanish, Irish and Italian conversation groups. Contact your local library for further details.
