Now that the COVID-19 restrictions are being eased, it is hoped that we can gradually resume our programme of events, though always in full respect for the government health guidelines in force.

Visit to Beamore excavation

As a first step we have been permitted to visit the excavation at Beamore by the very kind permission of the land owner.

On Sunday, 26 September at 3 pm., an outdoor outing, with up to 40 participants, will be held at Beamore, Drogheda, to visit the recently discovered archaeological site of a 13th century Cistercian monastery.

Dr Geraldine Stout will give a guided tour of the site.

The first 40 members who reply, on a first come basis will be sent an invitation email as soon as that number is reached. The number is determined by the space on site and not by health guidelines in this case.

Online lecture: ‘The Columban Influence on Insular Manuscript Illumination: A New Appraisal of Meaning and Image in Durrow and Kells’ 

On 7 October, at 8 pm, an online lecture for members on Zoom will be presented by Laura McCloskey, medieval art historian, on ‘The Columban Influence on Insular Manuscript Illumination: A New Appraisal of Meaning and Image in Durrow and Kells’ – in recognition of the 1500th anniversary of St Colmcille’s brith. Numbers are limited to 100 and this is being held in conjunction with the Kells Colmcille 1500 festival. Please email zoom@mahs.ie as places will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
