Climate consultations – how to make your submission work

Workshop on public participation and Irish climate policy

Thursday, 6th May: 7pm – 8:30pm via Zoom

The Government is currently running a Climate Dialogue, to consult the Irish public on the Climate Action Plan 2021 and the Climate Action Fund – but does public participation translate into climate policy? And how can consultation processes best serve communities?

This workshop, hosted by Clare PPN (Public Participation Network), will ask how we can use climate consultations to bring about real policy change; what kind of submissions have the greatest impact; and how communities and campaigners can come together to demand a just transition.

Seán McCabe will discuss his research work with people on the ground and how that translated into his recent ‘The People’s Transition’ report for TASC. Seán proposes a participative decision-making model that views climate action as an enabler of local development and gives communities ownership of the transition to zero-carbon societies.

Theresa O’Donohoe will offer guidance on how to navigate climate consultation processes to effect policy change; how to make submissions that will be taken notice of; and how submissions should be part of an array of campaign tactics.

Followed by Q&A / discussion.

This workshop is part of a series organised by Stop Climate Chaos. You can register at this link:
