Save the Date! Socially Engaged Practice: Building Equity in a Divided World
Date: 6-7 November
Location: The Dock, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim


Create’s annual networking event brings together those working in or entering the field of collaborative, socially engaged art. This year we are excited to offer the event as part of a two-day conference on socially engaged practice, in partnership with Leitrim County Council Arts Office and Cork City Council Arts Office. We welcome artists, researchers, community group representatives, activists, arts managers and more to join us on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th of November 2024 at The Dock Arts Centre, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim. The conference provides an opportunity to meet, learn, discuss, critique and engage with current concerns in social practice.

We look forward to sharing the full programme with you in the coming weeks – keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.  



AIC Scheme 2024 (Round Two) open for applications

The Artist in the Community (AIC) Scheme 2024 (Round Two) is now open for applications. This includes the following awards: Research and Development Award (without mentoring) Research and Development Award (with Mentoring) Recent Graduate Research and Development Award (with Mentoring) Project Realisation Award

Information Sessions (online) on 27 August or 4 September, 2-4pm
The information session is about answering any questions you might have about making an application to the Scheme. It’s also about sharing experience of developing and delivering a collaborative project through the Scheme. In the information sessions, Tatiana Dos Santos, AIC Scheme Programme and Development Support will be joined by a previous AIC Scheme recipient, who will share their experience.   





Marketing Executive, IMMA – Irish Museum of Modern Art

Culture Ireland, in partnership with the Arts Council, invites Expressions of Interest to curate the Irish representation at the 61st International Art Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia in 2026.  



Engaged Research Services for Creative Places Knocknaheeny, Cork City Council

Cork City Council Arts Office invites expressions of interest for the delivery of Engaged Research Services for Creative Places Knocknaheeny Research and Development Strand. They wish to respond to the demand for more local arts and creativity in the community as expressed in a review of the Knocknaheeny Social Economic and Environmental (SEEP) Plan.  



Compass Associate Artist, Dance Limerick

Dance Limerick with the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance at the University of Limerick launches Compass, an Associate Artist Initiative for dance artists based in Ireland. It aims to support the artistic practice and career progression of a dance artist through resources and cultivating a relationship with Limerick’s scene and spaces. The Compass Associate Artist will stimulate collaboration and dialogue between the artist and organisations to advance dance questions together and independently.  



Artist in Residence, Tallaght University Hospital

Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) Arts & Health Department in collaboration with colleagues in Tymon North Community Unit and St Luke’s Hospital, Unit C are inviting artists to apply to be an Artist in Residence, facilitating art sessions for patients at the bedside and becoming a valued and supported member of the arts team.

Dublin North East Inner City (NEIC) Initiative and Dublin City Council (Area Office and Arts Office) are seeking applications to tender for a multi-party framework for Community Arts Programme Services.  



TBG+S/HIAP International Residency Exchange

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios in partnership with HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme invites applications from Irish artists and artists based in Ireland for the eighteenth annual residency exchange between Ireland and Finland in 2025.  



Public Arts Programme 2024, Kilkenny County Council

Kilkenny County Council is embarking on a new phase in its Public Arts Programme. The focus of these commissions will be on collaborations with communities in County Kilkenny. 

They are now accepting proposals from any recognised art form, from individuals or teams, who seek to devise and complete new work, developed in a collaborative setting. They are seeking compelling, ambitious proposals from artists which meet, challenge and expand ideas of public art.  



National Lottery Artists’ International Development Fund, British Council and Arts Council of Northern Ireland, NI
Deadline: 9 September, 12pm

The Artists’ International Development Fund is an annual programme jointly funded by the British Council and Arts Council of Northern Ireland and is open to individual artists and organisations. The programme will support early-stage international development opportunities for individual, freelance and self-employed artists and organisations based in Northern Ireland.   



National Lottery Minority Ethnic Artists Mentoring & Residency Programme, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, NI
Deadline: 12 September, 12pm

In working to create the conditions for the widest variety of art and creativity for both artists and audiences through their Support for the Individual Artist Programme, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland are seeking to address the barriers to access, progression and representation in the arts encountered by minority ethnic artists with this mentoring and residency scheme.

This scheme is open for artists living in Northern Ireland who have made a contribution to artistic activities in Northern Ireland for a minimum period of 1 year within the last 5 years.   



Individual Mobility of Artists + Cultural Professionals, Culture Moves Europe
Rolling monthly deadlines from 1 August 2024 into 2025

Culture Moves Europe’s call for individual mobility targets artists and cultural professionals working in the following sectors: music, literature, architecture, cultural heritage, design and fashion design, visual arts, and performing arts.      





You’ll Bee Fine by Limelight Creative Arts and artist Sorsha Galvin

Date & Time: 21-22 August, 11am – 1pm
Location: Nuns Island Theatre, Galway Arts Centre, Galway
Admission: Free


You’ll Bee Fine is a heartwarming animation brought to life by Limelight Creative Arts and artist Sorsha Galvin. This charming tale invites viewers into a lush, vibrant forest where a curious bee embarks on an exploration filled with wonder and wisdom. Supported by the Brothers of Charity Services. This project received funding from the AIC Scheme, an Arts Council initiative managed by Create. 

The screening lasts approx. 20mins and is played on a loop, visitors are welcome to relax in the space.  


Ways of Becoming: Talks and Panels, UNIDEE Residency Programs

Date: 22-25 September
Location: Cittadellarte, Biella, Italy


For four days, talks, conferences, and meetings will be organised to address persistent and emerging issues related to art for social change. The program aims to reflect on the transformation of socially engaged artistic practices over the past twenty-five years and explore the various possibilities for art that inherently intersect with other disciplines.

The themes addressed reflect emerging and critical issues of contemporary times, starting with the ecological turn and the urgency to rethink the needs and specificities of places in relation to their inhabitants. Other themes include new configurations for future artistic institutions and how they can be imagined and implemented, the pedagogical dimension as an essential condition of socially engaged art, and hospitality as a method in the context of artistic residencies as germinal places for acquiring new skills. Finally, the program will discuss the evolution of the different formats experimented with by UNIDEE Residency Programs over the years and the function of the archive in imagining its next 25 years.    






 Safe to Create Bursary Awards for Wellbeing Coordination in the Arts and Creative Sectors – Continuing Professional Development Certificate

Safe to Create is delighted to announce that nine bursary awards are available to cover the full tuition fees for participation in the online Wellbeing Coordination in the Arts and Creative Sectors – Continuing Professional Development Certificate, provided by Adult Continuing Education (ACE) at University College Cork (UCC), commencing in Autumn 2024. Irish or Irish resident professional practitioners, living and working on the island of Ireland are eligible to apply.  



Volunteer with Open House Dublin, Irish Architecture Foundation

The Irish Architecture Foundation is excited to announce that volunteer applications for Open House Dublin (OHD) 2024 are now open. 

Whether you are willing and available to volunteer for just a couple of hours or even days, they would greatly appreciate your time, skills, and knowledge. Volunteering with OHD also qualifies you for Continuing Professional Development points.   



Retain, Extend and Expand Ireland’s Basic Income for the Arts Pilot

Through Minister Catherine Martin and this governments’ introduction of the Basic Income for the Arts pilot, Ireland has taken a significant step towards better supporting and investing in its artists. This initiative, unique in its approach, provides a basic income to artists, recognising their contribution to society and the economy. However, this program is currently a pilot and needs to be retained, extended and expanded.
