Catalyst Residency with Create & Fire Station Artists’ Studios Deadline: 8 April, 5pm Web: www.create-ireland.ie The Catalyst Residency, offered in partnership between Create and Fire Station Artists’ Studios (FSAS), offers a socially engaged artist from an under-represented ethnic background a one-month residency in Dublin 1 during June 2024. The residency is intended as an artist-led incubation period which allows them to develop their practice and their networks with targeted support from the residency partners. Guidelines (pdf) Guidelines (audio) Summer School on Collaborative Practice and Social Change 2024 Deadline: 15 April, 5pm Web: www.create-ireland.ie Create and Counterpoints Arts are pleased to announce the 2024 Summer School on Collaborative Practice and Social Change for up to 14 artists and cultural activists. The Summer School will take place over six days: 10 – 15 June 2024, at Killary Lodge, Co Galway. We encourage applications from artists and cultural activists who are involved or are interested in social change and movement organising in relation to structures of inequality, further inviting intersectional practices shaped by a range of mediums including music, film, theatre, creative writing, journalism, architecture and design and visual arts, amongst others. The six-day format of the Summer School is designed as an immersive incubator inviting participants to work on an imagined cooperative commission, alongside skills training workshops, comparative case studies, peer-to-peer reflection and one-to-one mentoring. AIC Artist Mentoring Award 2024 Deadline: 13 May, 5pm Web: www.create-ireland.ie The Artist Mentoring Award sits within a suite of offerings under the Artist in the Community Scheme (AIC). It aims to offer capacity building and arts practice development for collaborative socially engaged artists. Through the Artist Mentoring Award, artists from the Artist Mentor Panel will be available as mentors to emerging practitioners, artists with a strong interested in/transitioning into collaborative socially engaged arts, artists who find themselves on the margins and feel they are underrepresented in the field of collaborative socially engaged arts, for example due to displacement or migration, and artists facing particular challenges in developing their collaborative socially engaged arts practice. There will be five artist mentors and five artist mentees. In 2024, we are proud to introduce audio guidelines for the first time. These can be used in conjunction with the written text, or to assist those with additional access needs. Gender-based violence activist Mpho Mokotso and socially engaged artist Kate O’ Shea will jointly deliver a multi-disciplinary workshop drawing on core philosophies of planning, printmaking, and publishing for the people. Drawing on Mpho’s experience in activist practices, town and regional planning, and development studies and Kate’s heart-led practice of collectively seizing the means of production and strengthening networks of solidarity, this workshop will explore the creative potential that lies at the intersection of grassroots urban planning, social space building and DIY publishing practices. This session will introduce people to key art and activist projects by both practitioners and will involve and hands-on workshop which will weave socially engaged planning, print and publishing together. There is a limited number of places for this workshop.
