Community Water Development Fund: Nature Based Solutions (NBS) Workshop – Monday 13th November – 7.30pm – 8.45pm
The event will take place next Monday night with the purpose to highlight our community water development fund (see link here) and the increasing importance of nature-based solutions in water quality management in Ireland.
We welcome all interested parties to attend for this informative Microsoft teams workshop to help community groups to understand the positive collaborations groups can have with the local authority waters programme (LAWPRO) for the betterment of their local water environments and also the importance crucially more and more of the aforementioned nature based solutions in addressing our climate, biodiversity and water quality needs going forward (See our excellent keynote speaker Feidhlim Harty, Environmental Scientist and a fountain of knowledge Below).
LAWPRO will also discuss our flagship community water development fund of course with our brilliant and ever dynamic funding lead Sheevaun. Applications are currently open for submission until December 6th on the online portal. We hope the workshop will help inform groups how to apply and get involved in their local water bodies. I will be available after the workshop for follow up queries and advice.
An itinerary of the planned event with times is listed below.
1. LAWPRO introduce this workshop with a nature-based solutions focus looking at our water community champions and flagship community water development fund. The workshop will be about an hour and have presentations as per below. – 7.30pm
2. We present then community champions in this sphere for a brief five-minute overview. This can show the kind of community exemplars working with LAWPRO and within NBS/SuDs work. Caren Carruthers (Geashill Tidy Towns) will then discuss the swale/raingarden/wetland NBS projects there and positive work on SuDS aiding their tidy towns success. – 7.35pm
3. Helen Conneally (Ballinahown community development association) on ongoing works in the village with potential real tangible water quality differences for the River Boor in terms of flood mitigation there and massive engagement with NBS ideas for water treatment. – 7.40pm
4. We present then Feidhlim Harty of FH Wetland Systems to talk for about 20/25 minutes on NBS/SuDs Community Based CWDF projects and his experience working with Community Groups and other stakeholders across the Country. – 7.45pm
5. We then briefly cover the Community water development fund and how to apply etc with Sheevaun Thompson (LAWPRO funding lead) contributing on the night. This is to help generate greater awareness of the Funding window and help groups apply. – 8.15pm
5. Brief QNA with speakers ( any queries can also be followed up after with me if needed of course) – 8.25/8.30 pm.
6. Conclude the workshop – 8.45pm
