Date for your diary – The Kells Royal County 5km & 10km!

Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May

Meath LSP is delighted to announce the return of the 11th Royal County 5km & 10km Run/Walk on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May in Kells!

Online registration will open in mid-March! The event is organised by Meath Local Sports Partnership with the support of the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells AC, St. Brigid’s AC, Kells Gardai, Club Active Kells, Kells Swimming Pool, Kells Municipal District, Civil Defence and local volunteers. The Royal County 5k/10k event is licensed by the Athletics Association of Ireland and is suitable for runners, joggers and walkers!  Participants must be over 16yrs to enter the 10km and over 12yrs  to enter the 5km distance.

Sprocket Rocket Tutor Course

The Sprocket Rocket Tutor course is a one-day course which is a mix of classroom work and practical outdoor experience.

The course is open to anyone and while some cycling or coaching experience is helpful it is not essential. After the course you are fully qualified to deliver the Sprocket Rocket programme which is developed for children aged between 5 and 12 years.

Participants are taught four FUNdamental cycling skills, balance, braking, cornering and pedalling by qualified Sprocket Rocket coaches.

  • Date: Saturday 9th April
  • Time: 9am – 4pm
  • Cost: €40 Cycling Ireland members / €50 non-Cycling Ireland members

Come & Try Badminton for Women & Girls 16+

Fun, fitness & footwork! 4 week Badminton programme starts Monday 7th March at 7pm in Skryne Parish Hall!

This is a fantastic introduction to badminton in a fun, social setting. Suitable for Women & Girls 16+ of all abilities and fitness levels. If you have ever wanted to give Badminton a go or try something new, this programme is just for you! No previous experience or equipment required.

Buggy Buddies 18+

We are delighted to bring Buggy Buddies to 3 areas across the County! Buggy Buddies is a weekly 1-hour exercise session where you bring your baby along. Our qualified instructors will introduce a mixture of resistance, core and cardio exercises to suit all abilities and fitness levels. This 6-week programme is a gentle way to ease yourself back into fitness and a great way to meet other mums/dads in the area. We ensure a fun, social environment, where you can exercise and meet others in similar circumstances. Open to parents, grandparents and carers of babies and toddlers in buggies, prams and carriers. Cost is €20 for 6 week programme.

Soccer 4 Girls (12-18yrs)

Saturday 5th March – 26th March | 7-9pm | Ashbourne Community School

Ashbourne Late Night Soccer League for girls, hosted by FAI & Meath LSP is a great opportunity for girls of all ages to try out soccer or increase your soccer skills! Learn new soccer skills in a fun, social inclusive environment.

  • 12-15yrs @7-8pm
  • 16-18yrs @8-9pm

CricHIIT for Women & Girls 16+

CricHITT is a new training initiative for Women & Girls 16+ that incorporates all the skills of cricket combined with cardio and interval training to increase fitness levels. This is a fun, interactive training session suitable for all fitness levels. This is a great opportunity to learn the skills of cricket without the pressure of competing. Please note, on Day 1, Sport Ireland will be filming parts of the programme for promotional purposes.

Meet n Train 

Meet n’Train is an outdoor programme for both men and women that includes a combination of cardio, core and strengthening exercises to increase and maintain a good standard of health and fitness. This programme is suitable for men and women of all ages and abilities, from the complete beginner to the more advanced levels.

Each session is led by a qualified instructor who will incorporate a wide range of exercises making it both fun and challenging! There is a continuous flow to each training session where participants experience new and achievable ways to easily incorporate health and fitness as part of their daily lifestyle. If you’re looking for a new way to get fit and meet people in a safe and controlled environment, this is the programme for you! Cost is €20 for 6 weeks.

Come & Try Pickleball 

Tuesday 29th March at 11am in Trim GAA

Meath LSP is delighted to announce a new activity that is available for older adults! Come and try Pickleball! It’s fun, social and friendly! The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn.

  1. A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong
  2. Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net
  3. Played with a paddle and a plastic ball
  4. Played as doubles or singles
  5. Can be enjoyed by all ages and skill levels

Mature Movers 

The 6-week programme for adults (50+) includes activities such as seated exercise to music, resistance exercises with resistance bands, core stability, balance, seated Pilates and fall prevention exercises. Mature Movers is ideally suited to older adults as it provides for enjoyable social interaction, fun and activities.

Cost: €30 for 6 weeks.

Chair Pilates

Meath LSP are starting a 6-week chair Pilates programme for Adults 50+.

Chair Pilates is a low-impact exercise that focuses on strengthening muscles, improving flexibility and posture which enhances good balance, while also improving co-ordination and reducing risk of injury.

  • Cost: €30 for 6 weeks

Learn 2 Cycle

Learn 2 Cycle aims to assist children with a disability to cycle independently. This programme which is held over 6 weeks focuses on empowering parents and giving them the tools to support their child in learning to cycle. Participants will be guided by our experienced tutor from the Cycling Safety School.

  • Date: Thursdays April 7th – May 12th
  • Venue: Trim GAA
  • Time: 4:30pm-5:30pm
  • Duration: 6 weeks
  • Cost: €15

Run Jump Throw

The Run Jump Throw programme is delivered over 6 weeks and is aimed at children with Autism / Intellectual disability aged 5-12 years. The sessions include a variety of sports, fun games and obstacle challenges all adapted to the participants needs. The programme aims to improve the participants’ fundamental movement skills and increase their confidence in participating in regular physical activity. The involvement of siblings is encouraged during the programme.

Inclusive Easter Camp

This Inclusive Multi-Sport Easter Camp is suitable for children with Autism or an Intellectual Disability aged 6-12 years old. The camp will take place outdoors over 3 days and will see a variety of sports and activities take place. We encourage participants’ siblings to join in the activities also.

  • Time: 11am-1pm
  • Location: Meath & District League Grounds, Navan
  • Age: 6-12 years
  • Cost: €10 per family

Basketball School Programme

Meath LSP have teamed up with Basketball Ireland to introduce a new Schools Basketball programme for primary schools.

The proposed School Basketball Programme will consist of:

  • Teacher training
  • Basketballs supplied to schools
  • Teacher training resources
  • Basketball Ireland coach to visit school for class training session
  • Basketball Blitz for all pupils taking part in the programme

 

Basketball Ireland will facilitate the teacher training session and will also visit your school for a student training session.

Suitable for: 4th and 5th class students.

Available to: All primary schools in Meath.

Cost: €25 per school

Olympic Handball School Programme 

Meath LSP & Irish Olympic Handball Association (IOHA) are working together to introduce an Olympic Handball School programme for primary schools in Meath in 2022. This programme is available to all primary schools in Meath who would like to incorporate Olympic Handball as part of their school sports curriculum.

Primary schools who commit to the programme will receive:

  • Teacher training
  • Olympic Handball
  • Teacher training resources
  • Free School registration to the School league
  • Free entry into Meath School Olympic Handball Blitz

 

Suitable for: 3rd and 4th class students

Available to: All Primary Schools in Meath

Cost: €25 per school
