Meath Archaeological & Historical Society: Summer Update 2021

Welcome to a summer update from  MAHS.

It is great to see the gradual lifting of restrictions and the MAHS council looks forward to the time when we can resume our normal public activities. We do however continue to hold our council meetings by Zoom so the MAHS is continuing to operate in the background so to speak. We are continuing to send out this years Ríocht na Midhe as subscriptions are renewed and I would like to thank all those who have already renewed their membership for this year.

Renewal details are on our website https://www.mahs.ie

The table of contents can be seen on the website.

Royal Sites Survey

There are two ‘Royal Sites’ associated with the old Province of Meath namely Tara and the Hill of of Uisneach. At present a survey is being held on-line at https://www.royalsites.ie/ and we would encourage as many people as possible to go to that website and complete the survey. It is quite short and just takes a few moments to do. If you are completing this survey, could I ask that you give some consideration to the fact that there as yet has not been a manager or co-ordinator appointed for either of our existing world heritage sites, (Brú na Bóinne and Skellig Michael). This is something that needs to be addressed and commenting about that deficiency in the light of this current initiative would be useful. It’s vital that there is a proper management team for world heritage sites,
particularly given the issues that may arise for the host communities regarding
living within designated area.
