Welcome to our latest Newsflash! We are currently preparing for International Women’s Week and would love to hear what you are doing. If you have any events you would like us to promote, please send the information and a photo or image to Helen. As part of our  very successful #FemGen election campaign we ask candidates to commit to supporting 10 key asks for women’s equality if elected. 128 candidates signed up across all constituencies. For the first time, there was a woman running in every constituency but we were disappointed that only one more woman was elected to the Dáil than in 2016, increasing the number to 36. Some of the major political parties need to do much more to ensure we have equal representation! What happens at local level is important in this regard. NWCI recently published new research ‘Beyond the Dáil’ that looks at barriers to women’s political engagement at local level. We also developed a guide for women Councillors to set up their own Local Caucus.
As always, if you like the work we do, please support us by becoming an individual member. Enjoy reading,
Silke
